If you are reading this entry chances are you are considering Becoming an Avon Representative or you may be a Stay At Home Mom looking for ways to earn extra money. Either way, here is my story and how I ended up as a Representative for Avon.

 My Background Before Avon

I have spent the past year Marketing Online. I have kept a Blog with all the research I have gathered about everything Internet Marketing related and I have tried a few different “opportunities.” I have given it 150% from Day 1. I have learned things I never thought I would know anything about. One thing has been bothering me though since the beginning- A lack of passion for what I was promoting.

My  “WHY”

My “Why” is clear and always has been. I want to make a supplemental income for my family. I want to stop living paycheck to paycheck. I want my children to have access to all of the opportunities they show a passion for. I want something for just me. When you stay at home with 3 children you find you need something for just you- something not kid related!

Chapter 8 has been my favorite chapter of “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. I mean, who doesn’t suffer from Procrastination from time to time? The problem with Procrastination is it prevents us from making Decisions! Napoleon Hill found through his study of over 25,000 men and women who had experienced failure  LACK OF DECISION was one of the Top Reasons For their lack of success!

PROCRASTINATION Vs. MAKING DECISIONS QUICKLY

Hill’s study found that of the hundreds of men and women who had gained Tremendous Wealth over their lifetime had one of a few things in common: They came to decisions quickly and if they were to change them at all the change was made slowly. We often hear not to make “Quick Decisions,” Especially in business. The problem is when we stay in limbo Procrastination sets in. NO decisions end up being made! The essence of the “Think And Grow Rich” formula is to Make a Decision to be successful, form a PLAN as to how we WILL make this happen, set a TIME FRAME in which to meet our goal, and EXECUTE THE PLAN, not allowing anything or anyone to get in our way.

“Keep Your Eyes And Ears Open And Your Mouth Shut!”

In his research Hill found another trend in what made successful men and women wealthy, while others failed. Those who talk too much are not listening! How can we learn if we don’t listen? Hill sites that those who talk the most about their knowledge of a subject or of their success are usually those with very little of either! I totally agree with this revelation and I am sure that many of you are even picturing someone specific in your own life who meets this description. Hill realized that successful and therefore wealthy individuals were those that were usually modest and quiet. They kept their “Eyes and Ears Wide Open And Their Mouths Shut!”

“Tell The World What You Intend To Do But First SHOW It”

Another repercussion of talking too much is revealing your plans to those who may NOT suffer from Procrastination! People can be envious and devious. Before you know it someone else is putting your plan into action before you have even started! As we learned in previous chapter of “Think And Grow Rich”, only a “MASTERMIND” of people should be aware of your plans. This is the small group of individuals you have chosen to assist you in meeting your goal. Once this goal has been met then you show it to the world! Only then do you talk about it and share it with others!

“If You Are Influenced By The Opinion Of Others, Then You Will Have No Desire Of Your Own.”

This is my favorite thought. I think so many of us in the Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, MLM, and Blogging world can relate to this. There are ALWAYS those who feel the need to give you their opinion of what you are doing to reach your goals. There are ALWAYS those shouting “Scam!” and telling you that you are getting taken advantage of. If we listen to these negative opinions we will NEVER REACH OUR GOALS. Our BURNING DESIRE will fizzle out like a fire. This was my favorite quote concerning opinions from “Think And Grow Rich” and an appropriate way to end this post:

“The majority of people who fail to accumulate money sufficient for their needs are, genuinely, influenced by the opinions of others. They permit the newspapers and gossiping neighbors to do their thinking for them. OPINIONS are the cheapest commodities on earth. Everyone has a flock of OPINIONS ready to be wished upon anyone who will accept them. If you are influence by Opinions, when you reach DECISIONS you will not be successful in any undertaking, much less in that of transmuting your own DESIRE into money.”

I am reading a very interesting book that many of you may have read, and if not, you need to. “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napoleon Hill is a fascinating story of the study of hundreds of the most successful men in history. It is a non-fiction account of exactly how these men, most of them coming from nothing, made huge fortunes in their businesses. The men that Napoleon Hill interviewed, researched, and followed for upward of 25 years had one thing in common. They all worked and lived by the same principles described in the book “Think and Grow Rich.”

As I read this book I will be writing about my take on the 13 principles that brought these highly successful men their riches. The thing about this amazing book is that everyone can and most likely will find the “Secret” to success in different forms, chapters, sentences, and thoughts. I will be writing my thoughts which will help me to process the information I am learning as well as hopefully help others find their “Burning Desire“, thus leading them to success in life and business.

There is a big difference between having a “WANT” and having a “Burning Desire” to achieve something. The vast majority of people never get want they really want out of life because they approach business and personal goals as “Wants.” “I WANT to make more money.” “I WANT my online business to earn me enough money to quit my job, or pay off my debt.” “I WANT my child who is behind in school to reach the same level as his peers.” “I WANT to go back to school and earn my degree.” Having “Wants” is one thing. Having a “Burning Desire” to make something happen is very different.

All of the men Napoleon Hill researched had a “Burning Desire” to achieve their financial goals. They had the total mindset of “I WILL be highly successful in my business and I will do ANYTHING it takes to get me there. They did not WISH for things. They did not quit when they did not earn riches after 1 month, 6 months,  a year. They set out determined to achieve their goal no matter what it took. They followed 6 simple, yet highly important steps in the process. Think and Grow Rich Burning Desire

1. Be Definite As To The Amount Of Money You Are Going To Make

2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire.

3. Establish a Definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.

4. Create a Definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once.

5. Write a clear concise plan detailing all of the above.

6. Read your written statement aloud daily. Once in the morning when you get up, and once in the evening before bed.

Remember, these men were interested in acquiring wealth. I believe this same plan can be applied to MANY areas of life. If there is a “Burning Desire” there, you CAN make something happen. I know exactly WHY I am working online, what I WILL  accomplish, and when I WILL accomplish it by. I have a plan and a “Burning Desire” to achieve my goal. I know what I will give in return for meeting my financial goals and I WILL NOT stop until I reach them. What is your “Burning Desire?”

Do you like to make lists throughout your day to remind of things you need to do or ideas you want to share? I read a very cool Blog Post today by a VERY Successful man by the name of Richard Branson, the founder of The Virgin Group.

I have decided personally to start making lists by the suggestions I have read in this post. I think from a business AND personal perspective this will help me substantially. I need a way to sort through all of the MANY thoughts, ideas, chores, and goals that pop in and out of my mind all day.

I wanted to share this information for other bloggers, small business owners, affiliates, parents, and basically anyone who is working to find order in their lives. I hope you will find this information helpful!

The Power Of Focus.

Everyday we make an important choice that effects the direction our life will take – our Focus. There are many things in life we cannot control. It is so easy to get carried away with those “things” that we get bogged down, depressed, frustrated, and irritable. When this happens it takes its toll on the things we CAN control.

When choosing your Focus think about the things in life that are most important to you.

Think of the things that are priorities, that not only matter today but will matter far into the future. You will have daily annoyances that will try and take over your focus. You have a CHOICE in the matter! The choice is to refocus!

One of my favorite coping mechanisms when life gets overwhelming is to remember to “Do the next right thing.” This can be something really small, for example returning one email or taking a shower. When you are done with that task think about the NEXT right thing.

Some days focusing on anything can seem near impossible. Especially when working from home. There are so many distractions in our home, especially for those who have children at home, that the work at home parent can feel a particularly heavy weight. I find it best to try and Focus on one task at a time. If I am with my children, I work very hard to concentrate on them. I also have to plan time during the day when I can focus on my online business, but the majority of my work is done in the evenings. You cannot do it all! Especially not ALL at once!

Think about a negative situation you have been involved in, particularly something that had a lasting impact on you. In most cases will find that you have a choice as to what to take from the situation. With all bad comes a little bit of good if we choose to focus on it. There is usually a lesson to be learned, or a relationship that is strengthened. You may choose to focus on how a negative situation helped you grow and develop as a person.

On the business side we can take setbacks and choose to Focus on our goals instead. How can we use a setback to actually push us towards our goal? There is a quote I heard once that I loved and that has stuck with me, especially in my online business. It states “Setbacks are just Setups for Comebacks.” Keeping that thought in mind is a wonderful way to change your Focus when hit with a challenge.

I believe keeping your Focus as Positive as possible is key in any area of your life. Making the choice to take the positive from negative situation takes Focus. Running a business and taking care of a family takes Focus. Clearing your mind and letting go of the things you cannot control are KEY ELEMENTS In FOCUSING! You can do this! You can MAKE YOUR GOALS A REALITY!

Practicing Patience While Building Your Online Business

How Important is practicing Patience in your everyday life? How many people do you know who practice patience in their business? How about practicing patience with their children? Or their marriage, or their boss, coworkers, store associates, etc. We are presented with opportunities to practice patience on a daily, some of us hourly, basis!

I have three small children, a husband who works long hours, and I’m a work-at-home-mom. I feel my patience is constantly being tested! It takes such an act of balance to take care of my home, my online business, my family, and MYSELF! I try very hard to not allow the stress of “Life” and work to affect the way I treat my children, friends, family and even strangers at times, reminding myself of what is really important. “Picking My Battles”, if you will.

I find patience to be especially important when building an online income. SO many people are looking for opportunities that will award them a full-time income overnight that they are not willing to take the time it takes to build a strong, reliable business.

There is a belief that all good things take work.. I believe this. I believe in the idea that you cannot get something for nothing. When you are having doubts about the work you are doing online and where it is headed try to remember your “Why”. Why are you doing this in the first place? What is the income you are after for? Does your family need help paying the bills? Do need the extra money to get out of debt? Are you so unhappy at your 9 to 5 JOB that you are determined to find the freedom that comes with working from home?

When you are digging deep to find Patience in your online work, make sure to remind your self  “WHY” you are working so hard. Is it important enough for you to keep pushing through? I know my “Why” is the MOST important thing to me- My Family.

patience in online businessThere are many days that patience is hard to come by. “I need the money yesterday” kind of days. Building a Supplemental Income for my family is too important to me to lose my Patience though. I will NOT give up before my miracle happens!

I see on a daily basis how my business is growing and how practicing patience is serving me well. I always try to take a deep breath, and do the next right thing, having no doubt that practicing Patience will pay-off in the end!

2. In Online Marketing you have 2 choices:

Do it yourself = sell your own product PROS: Personal Branding  CONS: can be far more complicated, advanced, expensive, technically difficult to create sales funnel or system For do-it-yourself you must
figure out product
create order page
develop merchant processing account
support
customer tracking
sales- custom sales pages
Resell others products = Affiliate yourself with an already made product PROS: prove yourself online, everything done for you, inexpensive personal investment CONS: Company may not provide a quality sales funnel or capture pages.

3. Create a business plan. Write it down. Treat your Online Marketing as a Business!

4. Schedule your time:  At least an hr a day to Concentrate on the 3 C’s and only do income generating activities.
Create- traffic = tons of methods
Capture- leads= email opt-in page on blog, contact form on website, social media, offer value in return for information to gain Leads
Convert- sales = where do your customers come from?

5. Wisdom comes from 2 places: Mistakes and Mentors

6. Money is just an idea- stop letting it control YOU- you control IT!

7. Whether you think you can or you think you can’t- you’re right. Remain positive and don’t get disappointed- Learn from mistakes and Keep Moving Forward!

8. TAKE MASSIVE ACTION- you can go through training all day long but nothing will happen unless you take ACTION!

9. Work Backwards- what are you trying to get people to do in the end? Buy stuff. Think backwards. For example, What do you have to do to get people from your video to your sales page?

10. Provide Value In Your Marketing and Directly Relate It To Your Call of Action!
